Newbie looking to get started with tabletop gaming
« on: April 10, 2010, 12:49:02 PM »
I've never played a tabletop RPG before, but I'm interested in starting. I'd be most comfortable with D&D 3.5 ed, since I'm already somewhat familiar with the basic rules and mechanics through video games based on it and skimming parts of the player's guide on occasion, but I'd be fine with any game so long as someone's willing to teach me the ropes.

Also, I don't have any rulebooks or dice or anything, and money is really tight right now so I likely won't be able to buy any books in the very near future. Will this be a problem?

Well, there's a bi-weekly pathfinder game going on... I do not know if the GM wants to add somebody or not.

In case you don't know, pathfinder is basically "D&D 3.75". It's published by piazo, the guys who released Dragon Magazine for the last ten years, right up until WotC killed it. It's 100% open source, so you can check it out online here.
