A Wizard Outclassed
Pie's life as a wizard in training was complete when he finished training five years earlier than anyone ever at his school before.  His awesome powers of reigning destruction from above was noticed by his potions teacher who convinced the school board that he was ready to go when Pie decimated a supply cabinet of glassware with his mage hand of laughing fire, (he was only supposed to get a beaker for his health potion lesson).
[Pie is a horrible student and was ceremoniously kicked out of wizarding school due to the influence his rich uncle has on the school board.  The school was threatened with severe lack of donations if Pie did not get a scrip of scholarship, so the school made something up and sent him on his merry way]
Shortly after setting out for adventure, Pie got in trouble with a band of bandits with their own wizard on the payroll.  This wizard was not paid by his rich uncle and was not kicked out of his school years early.  This wizard was highly specializing in summoning and was spending time with the bandits because they were an easy source of practice and containment for the creatures he pulled from the ether.  When he was alerted to Pie's lone presence on the base, he decided to use this to study his new reversal of the summoning spells he'd learned so well.

Pie didn't know what hit him.

In Another World, Screaming
Nailed to the cross is how Pie came to his senses.  Oh how that hurt.  Pie sensed a history of hardship in his experience.  He definitely isn't used to getting his hands dirty, which is what he was forced to do for quite some time, constructing the crosses which were used to hang countless others like he was being hanged now.  It's just not right.  These are bad people, and they must pay.

Before being captured by the bad people, Pie lived a scholarly life.  He was the youngest instructor at the school, teaching even younger children the importance of history and how Right eventually prevails, based on the readings available.  Pie was hired for his expert scribing, so the history books could be preserved for further generations.
