Chalk Chagan used to be the king of the ring! He held more titles than he could shake his fist at now, if he were so inclined to shake his fist against those fun times. He'd probably tell you all about it if you'd be so kind as to buy him another drink. The drink's what brought him down, but he won't stay down in the dumps just moping about about it; he'll reminisce with a drink in one hand and a sword in the other. Drinkin's not the only thing Chalk does. He can do plenty of other things besides drink, if he puts his mind to it, and if there's economic stimulation incentivizing his actions.
Redemption Seeker
Chalk Chagan was kicked out of the playing field for drunkenly assaulting his manager. Now he travels the land in mock obscurity, knowing that the people must know of him from town criers, but pretending he's someone else, usually; until he drinks in the evening.
He's learned his lesson about assaulting those who pay him, though. Chalk might think a little longer before socking someone, and might try convincing a drink out of them before doing so (and the drink's on them in the end anyway).
Appearance / Mannerisms
Chalk appears to have almost had one too many. He's still standing though, for some reason. After a fight, Chalk likes to rub a mysterious foul smelling ointment over his cuts and bruises, and late at night he winds down with some puffs of "sweetgrass" with his drink.
He yells at kids, but secretly loves that they think of him as a role model and will give them an autograph on a scrap of hide if they are persistant. "Don't do drugs" he'll say, winking at them.
Love child
Occassionally Chalk is hunted down by the legal entities representing his ex wife. Being shown a picture of his daughter, who Chalk hasn't spoken with in many years, is usually enough to persuade Chalk to pay large sums to support the lifestyle he left behind when he was kicked out of the ring.
Core Motivation
Chalk is easily swayed to help the downtrodden. Unfortunately there are many of them and they want different things, so Chalk's chosen path branches a lot and can be steered with money (which can be used to purchase drinks and leisure).
Interrelationships
At night Chalk will listen to any stories of triumph the other players have, get a glimmer in his eye, say "it wasn't like that in the ring," and then take a sip of his drink.
