Well, with the group composition being what it is, I will have to be very creative to design appropriate encounters.  There's a Controller-Striker (Invoker), a Striker/Controller (Warlock), and a Controller (another Invoker or a Wizard).  You will need a lot of healing potions.

For some reason, I thought we had a leader. I’ll go ahead and make one of those.

My initial character will be an Dwarf Bear Shaman with the Dwarven Outcast background from the PHB2, which grants +2 Bluff and Bluff as a class skill. His spirit companion is a Protector Spirit that manifests in the form of a bear.

As a human, he will be a somewhat shortish fellow with a full beard. A normal shaman can call and dismiss his companion at will, but I was thinking that maybe he can no longer control that, and his companion follows him around constantly.

That should all be fine.  I'm going to try one more time to recruit folks, and then potentially set a date.

I’ve attached my character to this post. When we merge with a human at level 3, how does that interact with our racial bonuses and powers?

The WoW parallels just keep on coming. we've got a bunch of DPS looking for a healer and a tank.

We’d have the same problem in 3.5e if everyone wanted to play wizards and no one wanted to play a fighter or cleric.

A controller isn't really a damage-dealer by nature, any more than a defender is.

yes, yes, I know. there's Damage Dealers, and Controllers, and Tanks, and Leaders. It's not the same. But it's similar. anyway.

I have nothing useful to contribute.

You could always post something about your character. :P

Warlock. Still thinking about the roman dude though.

Also, I was kinda hoping for more information on how this whole "two in one" deal works? What happens if you are a non-human, how does that work? What happens if there's a big discrepancy in body types?

What if a big Dragonborn Warrior tank ends up in the body of a 13 old girl, for instance? is that even possible?

Details are needed.

If you decide that you want to be able to seal your power, then I guess you have to figure out what happens when you switch forms.  When your powers are showing, you look more like a Dragonborn, and when they are sealed, you look like a little girl.  My only condition is that there are unmistakable signs of what your character's race is.  The little girl in your example might just turn into a bulky dragon-girl without becoming 7 feet tall, for instance.  Be as silly as you want, but know that the other characters in the game may react unfavorably if the change is too dramatic.  For the best results in that direction, you'll want your characters to at least look roughly similar.

Ok. Half-Elf Warlock, taking Enfeebling Strike from Paladin Daily as my extra encounter, and picking up the Paladin Multiclass feat. There's a synergy there that appeals to me, and I can't think of anything else useful to do with my half-elf racial. Plus, given that ranged attacks always provoke attacks of opportunity, having a melee Charisma attack is nice. My wisdom is likely 10, and I want the Diplomacy skill, so things work out very well.

Skills... Arcana, Bluff, Intimidate, Insight, plus Diplomacy.
Feats: Multiclass and... dont know. Dark Pact is tempting, but I dont know where I'll get the Wisdom. Hellfire Blood is perfect, but I'm not a tiefling. Group Insight maybe?

Warlock: Star Pact. Powers should be more or less straight forward.

I'll have a proper stat block later.
