Entrophia Campaign Setting
« on: September 25, 2008, 04:15:24 PM »
I'm looking to start a 3.5 Dungeons and Dragons Game.

I've been working very hard on the setting for about 3 years now and have run one previous incarnation that ended due to my graduation from Jr.College.

The concept of the world is simple: Players Characters are cut above normal people. The "Unchained" can get hit with swords and live, cast magic spells, talk to animals, perform supernatural feats, Slay mighty creatures, and live to tell the tale. Unchained Heros are needed to salvage ancient artifacts of power, lost tomes of knowledge, and illuminate the long forgotten past before a grand succession war tears the world asunder.

Ten Things you need to know about my campaign setting

1. Players Characters are the central focus of the story. (Not NPC god characters that we all know and hate)
2. The world is vast and interactive. ( Adventuring begins on the starting continent, but there is a whole world to explore)
3. Player Characters are above international politics. (Nations need you! But your not slaves to their laws and borders)
4. Menaces and Machinations are omnipresent. (If your looking for a challenge there are a wide variety to choose from)
5. The Continent is at War. (7 Great Empires Clash to reclaim the ancient capital in a 200 year succession war.)
6. Halflings have been destroyed. (A Demilich has annhilated the Halfling race and harnessed their souls for Necromancy)
7. Gnomes are enslaved. (Dragon's favorite dish have been transformed into a slave caste, and are bred for Wyrm Food)
8. Magic and Psionics are Abundant. (Various races and nations utilize supernatural power for various purposes, so will you)
9. Most Races are present in Entrophia, many have changed from standard DND in fuction. (Eberron, Forgotten Realms etc)
10. The Gods are Distant (Clerics wield great holy/unholy power, but the gods keep physical distance from the world.)

Want to Play?

3.5 Edition Game
Ebberon Races Have been added and are available for play at my discretion.
Action Points are Used
Any of the Complete Books can be used to make a character
Book of Nine Swords is Banned
Psionics Is Restricted and Subject to DM approval.
Players will start at first level.
Rule of thumb concerning Supplements; If Fred doesn't own it, I can't use it. =D
I plan on running this game once every 2 weeks, I'm available tuesdays and thursdays only.

Ten Requirements for Joining my Campaign Setting

1. NO gamer funk. (I will not allow stinky gamers, sorry if this offends anyone, but i'm a blunt guy. You Smell, You Leave)
2. What you put into your character and my game you get out of it. (Its your game, i'm here to entertain you. Help me)
3. Just like zero trace camping, what you take into the room you take out of it. (Food and Trash come and leave with you)
4. Come to play. (I don't appreciate lurking, if you have a character you need to be playing. If your there to watch thats fine)
5. Characters are not generated on game nights. (Hell, i'll come to you if you want to make a character and join in!)
6. NO Rule Lawyering. (I will not be bullied or persuaded by rules lawyers, if you don't like my call, bring it up after game)
7. NO Physics Lawyering. (I don't care if your a physics major or a genius, its a fantasy world, accept my reality or leave)
8. Get Along or Go Home. (This is a cooperative team play experience, I will not indulge in petty PVP violence or abuse)
9. Create a Character that can function in a group. (I won't split the party, and I won't run seperate games, play together)
10. Attend or you will have no XP to Spend. (1st missed game 1/2 xp, 2nd consecutive miss No xp, 3rd Consecutive BYE.)

I hope to find a good group to play weekly for about 4-6 hours, maybe even longer on special occasions. I plan on running my campaign til I graduate, even if players go I will continue on with replacements. A good gaming group has to have the right chemistry and I want to put together a group that can work well and play together. I can fill up to 12 seats at the table, possibly more as I get back into the swing of DM'ing. (Biggest Table Session ever was 22 people) Character creation will be handled at the first session where I answer questions, and hand out the campaign setting manuscript. After that it will be handled on an individual 1 on 1 basis.

Post here if your interested, and send me an email with any questions are character ideas: Combat_panda@hotmail.com

Looking forward to hearing from you!

I'll bring some stuff to the Meeting on the 4th.

I've got some campaign geography, and an overview of the cities written up.  The world map is done as well, but its kinda on notebook paper >_<

Hopefully we'll see you at the mgaosu meeting

I'm officially interested by the setting, and I'd probably play a high Int/Good Dex human rogue (he'd be directing ballista and catapult fire when at sea) or maybe a middle-of-the line bard with weapons finesse (since every party needs a face), although I'm wondering if we're going to do much at sea?  (Maybe a lupin mounted fighter or ranger since they're from Eberron...as they're quite tempting with the skill bonuses and werewolf-hunting.)  Short of a heavy project falling on my head, I'll be able to make it to Saturday afternoon sessions.

Should I bring food in for the session?  I've got grocery swipes to spare and can pick up some cookies, pop, or even something more substantial during my mini-grocery runs on Friday after classes.

This is an exploration based campaign. I'll have plot threads that you can follow, but I expect alot of initiative from my players. I like both Ideas you have, I need players who are interested in acting, not just reacting to npc's and plot. Sounds like your on the same page with meh!

Yeah bringing snacks is always appreciated.  ;D

See you on the 4th

I'm also interested in playing. Seems like you have a lot of experience in DMing, something difficult to find in my hometown. I will most likely be a fighter or paladin. As for race, probably human or warforged if that's ok. Looking forward to the first meeting then.

So I want to put together a meeting, for the people interested in playing in my game, it would have to be on a tuesday or thursday, just like the game sessions are going to have to be.

Is Tuesday October the 15th good for people to meet up?

Was thinking about meeting at Oxleys by the numbers, (Coffee Shop behind baker systems building) around 7:30?

I'd probably start games at 7pm, end around 10:30-11:00pm playing weekly.

Send me a PM if you can make it!

=D

Okay, it was cool meeting you guys, and i'm looking forward to running the game next tuesday. I want you to bring your sheets to game ready to go, and I want the HW done before monday night so I can prep for tuesday.

Here is some campaign info.

Entrophia Campaign Setting: The Planet Lyrease
Geographic Locations on the Continent of Primael

1. Imperial Capitals and Empires of the Continent of Primael

Severel: North East Coast, The Severan Empire

Restigal: Western Coast, The Restigali Empire

Kelrada Shelendryn: Northern Coast, The Shelendric Empire

Synurgia: South East Coast, The Synurgian Empire

Vodria Villania: Southern Island, The Villani Empire

Metixzu Turajet: South West Coast, The Turajettan Empire

Hexapolis Chelandria: North West Coast, The Chelandric Empire

Roselle Scarabia Anarathil: Mid East Section, The Anarathi Empire

Torchport: Haragatho Port (Southern Peninsula Coast), Feral Empire

2. Great Forests

Elderwood- Elvenhold (Autumn Court) Last High Elven Enclave on the Continent

Rotwood- Forsaken Forests of the Ebon Elves (Ebonesti Drow)

Eversummer Moor- Home of the Feared Poisonesti Elves

Drum Runner Jungle- Thick Barrier Jungle between Restigal and Turajet

Rabbits Hollow-Peaceful and Pristine Forest that separates Synurgia from Severel

Drakenwald- Home of the enigmatic and interbred dragon-beasts. This is only
place on Lyrease to obtain the soul-stone dragonshard’s used in alchemist magic.

The Forbidden Forest- Only the bravest venture to this aberration infested hell on Lyrease.

The Sealed Forest of Chalene- Fae guardians abound in these sealed glades.

Frontier Forest of Chelandria- Surrounds the great city, presenting interesting problems and circumstances. Isolation, Dependency on Food Imports, Quillinesti (Wood Elf) Raiders, and Primal Forest spirits just to name a few.

Foreverwood- Twisting paths that lead the unwary to unknown planes of existence, its best to find a guide before venturing into this shadowy and dangerous forest.

The Jungle of Ten Thousand Tear’s- Winding Jungle torn asunder 1000 years ago by the Demi-litch Aesli. It Covers the southern border of Primael and nearly all of the Haragatho Peninsula. The jungle is now Split in two along the Great Sunder Falls (North) and Catastrophe Downs (South).

Tulorne Forest- An Ancient Forest that stretches on for miles south of Lake
Peridot. It is home to several different clans of Gnolls and Forest Goblins. It also contains many wonders left over from the glory days of the Primaelian Empire. The current owner of the Tulorne forest is said to be a Green Wyrm that supposedly was there at the same time as the forests first sapling.

3. Mountain Ranges

Frost Maw Mountain Range- Jagged peaks of frozen Ice and Blinding snow that surround the ancient city of Kelrada Shelendryn. The gateway to the Great Dwarven Under kingdom of Sardelhuun. Terrible White Dragon Separatists and Horrible Monsters acclimated to this inhospitable terrain make braving it anywhere but the pass a deadly and unsure venture. They stretch like a twisting belt to the southwest

Crescent Spike Mountain Range- Like an Arcing slice from a Restigali Warblade this mountain range cuts through the center of the continent. Sitting toward the center of the mountain range, the Ancient Ruins of Primaelis shake from the perpetual battle that rages here. Melee is interrupted occasionally by enraged earth elementals that erupt from the ground like geysers of death. The Sons of Sardelhuun watch from their mountain palaces, placing bets on the greatest battle of our age.

Bloodthorn Mountain Range- A vast expanse of perilous peaks, and storm
battered heights that spans the north of the Cursed Plains of Restigal. Rumored to be the haven for the Grand Blood Archmagus, and his devout Blood-Drenched Acolytes. Horrifying Blood Constructs and freakish abominations of the flesh are found and slain by Restigali Expeditionary patrols. The bodies of the slain are quickly claimed by the Marauding creatures and experimented upon by the mountains dark master. Three passes exist and are guarded by Elite Restigali War Masters and their Garrisons, they are constantly under siege, but year after year they manage to hold the passes open for caravans, and the expatriated and forsaken sons and daughters of the Empire of Restigal.

4. Waterways

Ravenous River- A bloodthirsty body of water inhabited by dangerous aquatic
denizens. Angry spirits of rage and everlasting thirst inhabit this rapid deep river. Even seemingly gentle fjords are quickly swallowed in sudden bursts of watery
fury. This river crisscrosses its way down the western edge of the continent passing its way through Chelandria, Restigal, Turajet and finally out through
Disaster Delta.

Wandering River- A wide gently curving body of water that facilitates commerce throughout the eastern portion of Primael, the mouth begins in Severel, continues down through Synurgia and spills into the Aruli sea through the Villani Colonial port of Cape Wingstown. The river is rarely temperamental and is home to several benevolent sea creatures that perform trade and act as guides through some of the rivers shallower beds. River bound Aquanesti have been known to aid vessels in distress, and Merfolk are found in abundance near Cape Wingstown. A famous Sybil by the name of Callista resides in a half sunken Lighthouse where her many lovers attend to her and the building as well. Her divinations are powerful and accurate, but her gaining her favor often includes some deadly trial or quest to secure.

The Underway- Beneath the great continent of Primael lies a river system cultivated by dwarves and there stone magic, the underway. The underway springs forth in the most unlikely of places due to its connection to the Dwarven artifact “The Tear of Beahla”According to Dwarven legend when the progenitor dwarves first delved beneath the continent of Primael, the first Monarch of the Dwarves undertook a great Expedition to map his new kingdom. His Wife Beahla wept and wept, for in her heart she knew that she’d never see her husband again. Before setting off on his grand journey, The King presented his wife with a Worry Stone of the Blackest and strongest coal he could fine. He than told her, “Yeh great wail’n babe, whilst yer worry’n yerself sick rub on this stohn and crush et inta a greate diamond fer me will ya!” They both chuckled and the king set forth on his mission. Beahla rubbed and rubbed until the stone crushed under the pressure and heat of her constant rubbing and worrying and became a diamond the size of a Halflings head. She decided to wash it clean of her tears and than to set it in an amulet for her king, so she quickly placed the diamond in the great fountain, where to her amazement it began to flow like a geyser. She knelt next to the great flow and whispered a prayer to the Dwarven All father to carry her husband and king home upon this miracle. A year and a day later, great canoes made of Petrified fungus and laden with gold plundered from Deep Orcs came floating in on Beahla’s river. The smiling monarch waved hello to his dear wife with pride and joy in his eyes. Beahla kissed the earth and never cried another tear for the rest of her life. This is the birth of the great magical underway… or so the son’s of Sardelhuun say.

5. Bodies of Water

Lake Peridot- A cursed and tainted lake that surrounds and once supported the ancient Grand Imperial Capital Primaelis. Once known for its thriving fish population and the trade and sustenance that it once provided. Great torrents of water used to flow via artificial canals and stout aqueducts. Now it is nothing more than a cesspool of pollution resulting from the nearly endless fighting of the great Succession War. Elegant Gondolas would float around and within the Capital, bearing citizens to their destinations. It was said that Love itself was responsible for the clear and pure water that flowed through the veins of the capital.  Now amidst the roar of the Spell Cannonade and the shouts of combatants; Alive, Undead, and Manufactured, the foul lake writhes in seemingly endless torment. Grand War Master Ulricht Vonstrauss said it best: “The waters of Lake Peridot now flow red with the blood of fools that defied Restigali Succession. ” …And My sons and daughters will keep filling it until our vassals finally submit to the Pure and rightful heirs of The Empire.”
The Hand of Ashantess- The Hand is an unusual water system of six interconnected bodies of water on the northeastern coast of the continent. Affixing itself to the Imperial Capital of Severel, it provides a fairly reliable trade route to various villages and outposts along the empire and beyond. The hand is also the focus of much speculation about supernatural activity that occurs within the “Palm” of Ashantess. Aberrations and Waterborne Terrors routinely strike unwary vessels that travel during inclement weather or other inauspicious times. Many ships have reported being boarded by filthy slimed covered men and beasts that crawled up from the lightless depths below. Blessings from the clerics of Quelith have been known to keep the beasts in check. Perhaps this because it is the deity himself that is spawning these hideous monsters…

*Apologize for the poor copy/paste job

So there you go, theres some flavor, I got plenty more. But that should help for character generation.

I agree with John.  I should have taken notes last night, though.

You should probably run up a handy little "Players Guide to Entrophia" .PDF at some point if you ever have the time.
