Epilogue for "Escape to the Tower of Nimozaran!"
« on: June 23, 2008, 09:55:56 AM »
There are a few loose ends to tie up here after our adventure.  Of note are the journal, the warforged issue, the kobolds, and the encrypted note.  Please post (in character) what you want to do about each.  How much gold did each person get in the 5-way split?

Out of character, please choose which of the following adventure seeds sounds most interesting, or if you have a particular quest on which you wish your character to go:

The Notorious Halfpaw: There's only one merchant in town who can reliably import rare goods (i.e. magic items), and he has a crime that needs solving.  Ready hooks: Broca, Hyune.

Knight of Shadows: His eyes are black and his blade is keen.  A stranger has run afoul of the law, but his story suggests that his intentions are good.  Ready hooks: Berrian, Adran, Jurdan.

Extermination: The local kobolds are proving to be a far greater nuisance than is considered acceptable, and reports suggest the involvement of a dragon.  Ready hooks: Broca, Berrian.

I'm sure someone can flesh that out a bit.  Or a lot.  That was very bare bones.  I must have left something out.
The party was hired to check out a newly unsealed dungeon.  Once they teleported inside, they found a small army of kobolds waiting for them.  After dispatching them, they released Adran and Jurdan from their stasis chamber.  This is about when the party realized that they were in the former lair of a lich.  They found a magical robot named Malitol in a cell nearby, turned it on, and got pummeled.  They then sent Berrian into a trap while they fought some clay figurines.  Once the figurines were destroyed and the trap was disabled, the party took its newfound treasure and blew up another group of kobolds.  leaving behind the treasure in this room, they grabbed the only undecayed book on the shelf and poured a bunch of blood out in sacrifice to Orcus.  They could have easily based down the door that the sacrifices opened, but whatever.  Behind this door was an exploding skeleton.  Soon after came the last of the kobold militia, this time with trained scorpions.  The party dispatched them and continued exploring, getting caught in a small cave-in before fighting some giant lizard-bugs.  The fire beetles were next, followed by a hasty retreat from the lich's lair.

Current party:
Berrian, the Antisocial Paladin
Broca, the Bounty Hunter Ranger
Adran, the Hiding Ranger
Jurdan, the Bleeding Warlord
Hyune, the Reluctant Wizard

Loot: (level 1) Armbands of Mighty Striking, Sylvan Hide +1, Orb of Sanguine Repercussion +1, Frost Long sword +1, gold and a healing potion

(level 2) Melora's Symbol of Life +1 (taken out of the level 2 gold total), a small amount of extra gold

A few puzzlers, eh? While I admire the binding on that finely crafted journal (no weathering for that thing), I can barely converse in common, let alone whatever scratchy language that looks like. An encrypted note then.  Another damned puzzle?  I can look at it really hard, but a quicker solution may be to burn the answer out of the thing.  Let me fetch my flint.  Aren't wizards good at these puzzle things?
The twenty-six Kobold heads may be used for many things, they make a nice tea if prepared right.  At 10 gold a head, though, turning them in is going to be my first stop in town.  I'll come back with my pockets full to the brim with gold pieces to share around.

A) What does this mean -- Ready hooks.  Is this a declarative statement (you can easily work this in) or an imperative (work this in, guys)?
B) The first two choices might give us an opportunity to try the social aspects in 4E.  I haven't gotten to that part of the book yet...  Any other thoughts?

I’m not quite sure what they mean either, which is important since I thought I was supposed to be preparing/running the next adventure….

Skill challenges are only described in the DMG for some reason.

When taking the place of a combat encounter, everyone rolls initiative and play proceeds through the initiative order, and each PC uses one of the primary skills (as indicated by the DM) to attempt to obtain a success towards the total needed to pass the skill challenge. The number of successes is proportional to the rating of the challenge (between 1–5 inclusive), where the rating is equivalent to that number of regular monsters for purposes of budgeting an encounter. Skill challenges may also be used as part of a combat encounter (e.g. traps).

I am thinking about what my next adventure is going to be.  I know that You are running the next one.  "Ready hooks" means that I already have reasons for why those specific characters would be interested in pursuing each hook.

Hyune- The Pragmatic Wizard

Reluctant isn't the case... its just that he wears kleenex for armor and has a butterknife for a melee weapon!

The kobold extermination, and Halfpaw sound good to me. Shadowy knights with lots of hitpoints and sharp pointy objects that poke and slash mages doesn't sound like Hyune's idea of a good time.

Also the blow most of your gold at the local house of ill repute thread, sound good to Hyune as well...

Jyrgal --
We need to find someone who can interpret the journal for us to provide information about the lich. The lich my compatriots and I fought must have escaped and is a danger to all living things. He killed one of us and drove the warforged insane.

If the kobolds are a threat to travelers and farmers in the area, we must make war against them.  If we know of a good target to attack, let us prepare ourselves and have us rather than innocent civilians fight their warriors .

Ah, misunderstanding on my part. Long day at work I guess.

And by the way, if you have adventure ideas for your characters, feel free to post them.  Be as specific as you want, within reason.
