The Created
« on: October 28, 2007, 11:07:06 PM »
Hey all! Before I embark on some heavy revision, I'm going to post this up to see if anyone has interest in joining a game of Promethean: the Created, which I am considering running on Saturdays (possibly at my house or maybe on campus if it's easier for people). For those who are unfamiliar with this fantastic nWoD gem, you can find info at White Wolf's website, here.

I already have a couple of potential players, and I want to keep a small throng as this will be my very first attempt at ST/GM-ing a proper game like this. I can, however, try to deal with a larger throng if needed. I have ordered the minimum I need in books; they should be in soon so in the meantime if you'd please post to say if you're interested, that'd be great! I'd probably be setting it in nWoD Chicago or somewhere stateside.

The nice thing about Promethean is the fact that you really can "win" it, more or less. You have milestones to complete, and you have the opportunity to grow and learn as you develop in human society (or as close to it as humans and nature will let you get). I played a fun character in this whilst I was in Britain; I found it works brilliantly with good players and great group dynamic, both of which I think our group here possesses. If anyone's familiar with the game who happens to be interested, you can also post or message me to call "dibs" on a lineage or refinement. I will probably limit things to one character per lineage (unless you have a stellar concept) to try to make a viable throng, though I will be much more open to multiples of the same refinement (but we can't all be angry angry sots!).

If interest is strong enough, I will probably try to arrange a meeting when I can give everyone a rundown of how the game works and run everyone through character generation who needs a hand.

So whatcha think?

I'll give it a try if it's going to be a Saturday thing.  As a side note, I do have the core book for this game.  I'm mostly interested in playing either a Galaetid or Tammuz (although I'm sure I could handle any of the lineages except Ulgan).

I'm interested.  I'm familiar with the world of darkness system, but not with the Promethean book.  What are the PCs like?  What kind of things can they do?

You play characters who are variations on the theme of Frankenstein's monster.  They can become strong, durable, able to withstand electricity, etc., but no one who knows them will ever like them.  The game is all about the persecution they endure as they strive to become human.

Edit: there is a demo download at the link Cherandabear gave us.  You should probably grab that if you want more information.

So my planned Galateid concept is a porn actor who was working on a job with a Galateid named Anne Arbor (I'm sure I'll think of a better name later) in (insert convenient city here.  Chicago?).  Before her Disquiet set in, he was apparently murdered by a serial killer in his apartment.  The Galateid, convinced (maybe for the 17th time?  She's lost count.) that this man would be the one whose love would make her human, came to his apartment to profess her undying affection for him.  What she found was (some gruesome scene, possibly vampire-related?).  Saddened, and noticing that the killer had not disfigured him much, she performed the ritual to turn his corpse into a Promethean.  Now he is back, with little to no memory of his body's former life, but with his creator's "love" to support him.  Adding to the confusion is her expectation that he will be able to make her more human, despite the fact that she has pretty much destroyed his humanity.  Some of his goals will include stepping back into his former life, finding out about his past, avenging his death, finding a woman who will love him despite his condition, helping his creator find peace and/or escaping his creator, and a few other things to give this some breadth.

I will probably take a dot or two of resources (as per his creator's instructions, he will be careful to avoid shooting films in the same neighborhood multiple weeks in a row), Striking Looks, Mentor, Fame, etc. as you think appropriate.  This character will most probably start with the refinement of Gold, but a switch to Mercury or Tin might be appropriate.

If you are using the source book that includes them, the Unfleshed sound pretty cool.  I always wanted to play a robot.

Hmm, after looking over the wiki, I would say I want to play as a Tammuz following Mercurius. I'm not sure about a backstory yet, but we can talk about it.

Wow, awesome! I like that in a Galateid, indeed; very interesting concept. Tammuz is fine, tend to be really fun! Unfleshed? Hmm...

No Ulgans eh? Awww, they're soooo fun!! I fought the spirit of a buzzsaw once to help some cow spirits and uh... "milked" some ectoplasm (like hell if I knew what that was though!!)

Thomas, I'm afraid I do not yet have Saturnine Night, and as I am still learning the system (I know, scary) I'm not sure how comfortable I'll be with an Unfleshed. However, if you're really dead set on it, could be that I'll pop down to the Guardtower (or if you know any other suitable gaming shops) and see about it; alternatively I might try to Ebay it (still waiting on my core book set...) or otherwise.

People are familiar with the new bits in nWoD, right? Or do I need to actually buy the core book for that rather than getting it by other means ;)?

As I said, I'll consider Unfleshed if you're dead set on it, but as this is my first attempt at running a game ever, sorry guys but NO nuclear prometheans. I need *some* times of peace for my throng! If you lot make a throng, heh.

So that's three so far... gooooood! :) Anyone who knows the game should know that it's wise to procure more players for a nice diverse throng!

I think we should stick to the core book for now.

Man, I wanted to be a robot.  I'll have to think of a new concept, probably with the Frankenstein lineage.

You should try Nepri!  They get the power to resurrect themselves whenever they die.

I thought they could only resurrect once.   Do you have any ideas for exciting character concepts?

Any Promethean can revive once; Osirians can do it twice, and they can spend experience to be able to do it more times.

You could just do your amnesiac concept.  That actually works well with Promethean since the created do not remember their former lives.  There really doesn't need to be any rhyme or reason to how you assign skills, as long as you can eventually piece together who the character once was.

Maybe something like this.
